Description
Iran adopted their current version of their flag in 1980 after the Iranian revolution. This resulted in the end of a 2,500 year old rule by Persian monarchy and replaced by an Islamic Republic. The middle symbol stands for 'Allah' and the pattern on the red and green bands is actually Kufic script for takbir - 'God is the greatest.'
The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
