Description

*Note* Star colours and text vary according to the original colours of the flares they used to contain (red, yellow, green). See last photo for reference - these will be picked at random

A commonly looked over aspect of warfare is communication. The allies became masters of communicating with advanced technologies however even much more utilitarian tools had their uses - flares. The Brits & commonwealth were issued these tins that used to contain a set of 6 flares. Each box would have a coloured star at the top to tell the user which colour they would be lighting up. They also have different markings according to colour imprinted on them so you can feel at night which colour you are handling (cross for red, circle for yellow, triangle for green). Originally these would be somewhat water tight, although with age and use this is probably not fully the case for all of them.

These flare tins make for great nik-nak storage or aesthetically pleasing vintage show pieces on a shelf. They sure don't make them like these anymore and being over 78 years young they are not growing on trees!
