Description
Sri Lanka adopted their flag in 1972 and contains many elements. The lion represents the Sinhalese people. The bo leaves stand for the four virtues of Buddhism. The sword of the lion represents the sovereignty of the nation. The orange stripe represents the Tamil ethnic group and the green represents the Moor's. Meanwhile the maroon background represents the Sinhala ethnicity.
The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
