Description
Sao Tome and Principe adopted their flag in 1975 when they gained independence from Portugal. The green strips represent the vegetation of the islands, the yellow represents the sun and the country's key cocoa industry. The red represents the movement for independence. The two stars represent the islands that make up the country.
The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
