Description
M17 protective masks were produced in 1959 as a replacement for the M-9 gas mask. The US Army issued three types of M17 masks, the M17, M17A1 and M17A2. This M-17 carry bag would house the gas mask components; filter, face piece and outserts. Complete with two straps for wearing over the shoulder or around the waist.
This bag has a rugged canvas construction, typical of military gear from the '60s and 70's. The sides are reinforced with a protective, yet flexible material. Securing the main compartment is a pair of snap domes. On the opposite end is a small pocket and pouch, also with snap dome fastening. These additional compartments would have been used to carry a waterproof bag and nerve agent antidotes (NAAK). While these bags will fit many types of gas masks, they'll also prove useful as a daily messenger bag, or simply as a cool display piece of military history.
