Description

The Turtle Backpack, officially known as the Other Arms Rucksack, is a British Army contraption designed to transport luggage and equipment. Also known as an Engineers Pack or Other Arms Bergen. The rucksack was issued to non infantry units for carrying their kit from barracks to field bases, as opposed to a regular ruck which is suited for long hiking trips or reconnaissance missions.

The design allows the pack to be carried from the top, like a holdall, or on the back. Where most rucksacks would have straps or pockets on the outside, this pack leaves those areas blank to reduce snagging or items falling out of open pockets. Even the shoulder and waist straps can be hidden under a flap for catch-free transportation. These packs include two 10 litre side pouches (rocket pouches) which can be attached to the main 70L compartment. They secure via two heavy duty zips with buckles at the top and bottom to reduce unwanted 'bounce'.

This rugged ruck has survived a beating from the troops and is ready for more adventures. Use it for travel, load up some sports gear or store your camping supplies. One pack to carry them all!

Tougher Than Me and Insane Value.

Bloody great value for money. Just received my "..Other Arms Rucksack" and I'm sure it will outlast ME by a long shot. All the straps, buckles, zips and sewing on mine are unflawed though well used.
The side pouches are massive and when zipped off they reveal 'belt' loops on the back which means you could use them in their own right separately from the rucksack.
Mine had the aluminium 'frame/brace' in place, which I don't need. Removing them means I have 3 full length compartments inside the pack, the obvious main one, a second 'open topped' one (On a smaller pack it would be the laptop pocket.) which is almost as deep as the pack is tall and then the third one which was where the brace was and the top of that can be securely closed with velcro and studs.
All the velcro on the pack retains great stickablity, which was a pleasant surprise. I purchased the pack as my 'carry on' and 'daily exploration' pack for an upcoming trip to Europe. Without the side pouches attached it will fit that bill nicely...particularly because you can cover the backpack strapping entirely for carrying on trains, planes and buses.
The zips are all large and heavy duty. The main zip for closing the top of the pack has a 'rain cover' that naturally covers the zip when it is zipped shut.
This thing has a LOT of space inside, far more than I will need in Europe but always nice to have spare space 'just in case'.
I am delighted with the purchase, I think I got astonishing value for money and my German Shep loved all the new smells that came as we unpacked it for the first time.

Massive Mission Backpack/Suitcase

These packs are Unique.

They're tough as.
Mine was like a Frankenstein pack, ~built with parts swapped from at least 4 previous owners & it's still staunch as.
Gave me a cardio workout exploring its' capacity.

It's Massive.
Zip on its' rocket pouches, flip over its' turtle flaps,~it's like a rambo suitcase.

An old yoke was stashed in mine, which was brilliant for hanging its' massive rocket pouches from.

Being well used but not well worn, no defects came with its age.
It's weathered, mud-rugged durability.

Definitely worth the $ beyond a precious man-bag.

I have in my kit: OD GREEN LONGBACK, DPM SHORTBACK, ALICE PACK LARGE (FRAMED) & MEDIUM ( FRAMELESS), DPM "NORTH IRELAND" PACK & topping it off with a British army "BLACK BAG/ OPERATIONS BAG.
I couldn't resist buying this when they went on special. Great kit holder & the 2 rocket pouches included were a perfect match "colourwise", not too faded or beat up from previous life.
Get some!

Great for car based travel

I bought one of these Rucksacks as were heading off on a plane/boat/train/car trip & needed something that would take a good amount of gear (clothes, picnic stuff & towels) and be able to carried on my back as I transited from one mode of transport to another yet be easy enough to cover up all the straps for putting into a luggage hold without snagging on anything else. This rucksack fitted the bill exactly, I used the 2 pouches inside the pack, 1 as a shoe bag & the other for the picnic gear. It was easy to cover up all the straps with the ‘flap’ when they needed to be covered & then roll it up & secure it when I needed to wear the bag on my back. Clothes in packing cells made for easy packing & finding things as & when needed. The storm flap added to my feeling that everything would stay dry & it did as we travelled in some considerable rain showers. Although I didn’t walk great distances carrying this on my back it was incredibly comfortable when I did & I had to stand at times in queues where wearing it was easier then taking it off & moving it as the queue moved forward. A great buy.
